Field Sparrow Farms has taken on the vegetable delivery service that was formerly provided by Kawartha CSA. They are offering a winter veggie box subscription that will run every other week from January 16 to May 22. The subscription will include 10 deliveries of 20 lb. boxes of healthy, naturally-raised vegetables sourced primarily from the Amish community in the Kawartha Lakes region.
The boxes will contain stored root crops such as potatoes, carrots, beets, winter radishes, artichokes and onions. As we get closer to spring, greenhouse crops such as beet greens, salad greens, spinach, kale, green onions, lettuce, and fresh radishes will also become available. In addition to vegetables, the box will contain a variety of value-added products such as preserves, pickles, fresh-ground cornmeal, and red fife wheat flour.
The cost for the box program is $50 per box, for a total of $500, and boxes will be available for pickup at The Depanneur on Thursday afternoons.
