As sad as I am to see the heirloom tomatoes go, this means that the bushels of delicious local red shepherd peppers are now appearing in the local markets. I’ll be making them Romanian-style (Ardei Umpluti) using my Dad’s recipe – stuffed with ground beef & rice, and cooked in a rich, tangy tomato sauce. They’ll be served with a side of buttery soft polenta (mamaliga), a sprinkling of crumbled feta and a dollop of sour cream.
