Thanks for all the birthday wishes, and for making me feel connected when I am very far away.

I arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka about 12 days ago, and just holed up in a little room to focus on getting a chunk of much-procrastinated editing done on my cookbook. I sent off 350+ pages of recipes to the editor, my birthday present to myself.

To celebrate, I treated myself to the most lavish Sri Lankan buffet in town at the ultra-luxe Cinnamon Grand Hotel, which set me back all of $17.

Today I will be renting a tuktuk for an 8-day circuit of the country before flying to Kuala Lumpur for NYE.

52 is off to a good start!
