A fun way to put the Civic back into the Civic Holiday! In partnership with Not Far From The Tree and Christine Manning of Manning Canning, The Dep is excited to host a Family Canning Day on the afternoon of the August holiday Monday, from 1-5pm.
Not Far From The Tree is an award-winning local organization that organizes volunteers to harvest the incredible bounty of local and organic fruit that grows right here in the city. The harvests are split between the homeowners, the volunteers and food banks.
We will spend the afternoon turning an amazing harvest of pears and/or apples picked by Not Far From the Tree into wonderful preserves using recipes developed by Manning Canning and Chef Cheryl Torrance just for this event.
Join Christine and for a fun, family-friendly experience as we wash, chop, stir, boil, laugh and ladle our way through an afternoon. Kids are encouraged to participate, whether it be prepping fruit or drawing custom labels for the jars of preserves we will be making.
Each person in attendance will take home the recipe, and have the option of buying jars of preserves (depending on overall yield) at a deeply discounted price. Not Far From the Tree will also receive a portion of the production to help with their fundraising efforts.
Spend time with your kids, learn a new skill, take home a delicious, local & organic treat, and help out an amazing local organization – all in one fun day!
