The Depanneur Cookbook is equal parts memoir, manifesto and cookbook. The book features amazing stories, beautiful photography by Ksenija Hotic, and showcases 100 recipes from 100 cooks representing more than 80 nationalities.

Launched on Kickstarter in Nov 2020, The Depanneur Cookbook reached its original goal of $20,000 in only 18 hours, and went on to become the most successful Canadian cookbook project… ever! To celebrate, we committed $5 per book towards Kiva microloans to women food entrepreneurs in the developing world.

Taste CanadaSince being published by Simon & Schuster Canada in 2024, The Depanneur Cookbook has been awarded 3 Gourmand International "Best In The World" Cookbook Awards (Winner: Special Jury Award, 2nd Place: Creative & Innovative, 3rd place: Cities), as well as a finalist for the 2025 Taste Canada Award for Regional / Cultural Cookbooks, and featured as a "Best Toronto Read" in the 2024 Lonely Planet Guide to Toronto.

A cookbook to feed the soul at least as much as the stomach

"Is it normal for a cookbook to make a person cry?

If you love food, and especially if you like to experience different food cultures, this is the book for you.... It's like if you distilled down everything it means to be a Canadian and put it into this glorious collection of random, multicultural recipes.

There are one hundred recipes but the richness of the stories and the diversity of the cooks and their recipes makes it feel like a thousand... It's beautiful and moving, and I can't wait to cook the hell out of this book, but I'd buy it all over again just to read the stories. Six out of five stars, no notes."

An amazing cookbook wrapped up in an inspiring story

"The Depanneur's story is an amazing one. "A place where interesting food things happen" is perfectly vague and perfectly accurate. This cookbook captures the essence of the history of the restaurant/cafe/club that the Depanneur was and is. At its heart, this book is about expressing amazing human stories through food, collaboration, creativity and the courage of the chefs, amateur and professional, that were involved in "The Dep" over the years. Highly recommend!"
