Masterclasses offer in-depth explorations of food and drink topics, presented by experts and accompanied by demonstrations and tastings.
Classic cocktails like the Manhattan and Mojito earned their place in history for a reason! But they've also served as a great source of inspiration, and some of the best new cocktails came about when bartenders tinkered with the classics. In this hands-on cocktail class with Tammy Coxen, you'll get to see that process in action as you make and compare four classic cocktail recipes and their modern twists.
You'll learn about the origins and history of the Manhattan, Negroni, Bee's Knees and Mojito, as well as discover creative and delicious modern updates on those favourites. Along the way you'll learn essential cocktail mixing techniques that will make all of your cocktails better, and there will be plenty of time to get all your cocktail and spirit related questions answered.

A Prohibition-era gin sour, sweetened and brightened with honey and lemon — born from the need to mask the rough edge of bathtub gin. Go from the 1920s to the 2020s as you get spicy with a modern update featuring tequila.
Manhattan
A classic American cocktail of whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters, stirred and strained — its history stretches back to 19th-century New York. You'll mix the original, then taste a much-loved variation from the early days of the modern craft cocktail renaissance.
Negroni
Equal parts gin, Campari and sweet vermouth, built over ice — the most iconic cocktail to come out of Italy and still going strong 100 years later. But it's endlessly riffable, as you'll discover when you compare the classic build to a contemporary twist with smoke and chocolate.
Mojito
Rum, lime, mint and soda - when made correctly, it's one of the most refreshing highballs around. Learn how to make the best version of the traditional recipe plus a sophisticated modern twist perfect for a celebration.
Throughout the class, Tammy will share the origins and stories behind each cocktail along with essential mixing techniques — shaking, stirring, muddling — that carry over to any drink you make at home. The class includes a combination of history and stories, technique instruction, and hands-on making of cocktails — plus sampling, of course! Total consumption is equivalent to around 2 cocktails per person over the 2 hour class, and some light snacks are provided.

Tammy Coxen grew up in Canada, spent most of her adult life in Michigan, and is now living in Toronto. While in Michigan, she founded Tammy's Tastings, a company devoted to exploring the world of food and drink through hands-on classes and tasting events.
Since 2011, her focus has been on teaching interactive hands-on cocktail classes to individuals, groups, and companies for events ranging from parties to corporate team building. Her classes focus on not only the mechanics of how to shake and stir cocktails, but the rich stories of the people, ingredients and history behind the drinks.
Tammy has passed the business on to one of her employees, but still teaches online cocktail classes for Tammy's Tastings and has started offering private cocktail classes in Toronto. She's also the host of My Tiny Bottles, a blog, podcast and YouTube series exploring the collection of miniature liquor bottles she inherited from her grandmother.
