Hungarian cuisine boasts a complex and often overlooked array of dishes spanning pure, hearty comfort foods and one-pot peasant dishes to elevated fine dining preparations and world class wines. It also features a long, proud baking and dessert making tradition that has been influenced by the many cultural intersections and inhabitants of the region over time.
Savoury soups, stews and dumplings sit aside exotic culinary inflections from far and wide, including Turkish under the Ottoman Empire, neighboring European cuisines under the Austro-Hungarian Empire and touches of Slavic influences.
Join renowned Hungarian cookbook author and teacher, Annamaria Torok, for this hands-on introduction to a few of Hungary's most iconic dishes. She will lead you through the start to finish preparation of the menu and will explain some of Hungary's important history and culture to deepen your understanding and appreciation of Hungarian cooking. After preparing a three-course meal we will sit to enjoy our Hungarian lunch.
Csirkepaprikás (Chicken Paprikás)
One of Hungary’s most iconic comfort dishes and a wonderful introduction to traditional Hungarian home cooking. Tender chicken is slowly simmered with onions and sweet Hungarian paprika, then finished with sour cream to create a velvety, deeply flavorful sauce.
Nokedlivel (Egg Dumplings)
Soft Hungarian egg dumplings, similar to Germany's spätzle, that are perfectly designed to soak up rich sauces
Uborkasaláta (Cucumber Salad)
A light, refreshing cucumber salad to cut through the richness of the main meal and providing some textural crunch, keeping everything in balance.
